DESCRIPTION
The legal services industry is changing rapidly. Not only through digitisation but also via incorporating client-centric business models, new multidisciplinary services, and easier access to justice. To kick off the Academic Programme of AIJA’s 59th Annual Congress, we have invited three outstanding speakers who act at the forefront of legal innovation to share their insights and predictions about the futuristic vision of the legal world.
One keynote speaker will be Sarah van Hecke from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She is a communication scientist at Deloitte, specialising in behavioural psychology. She mainly focuses on the influence of imagery and design on behaviour. Learn from Sarah on how implementing legal design will redefine the legal profession
Another keynote speaker will be Florian Glatz, a.k.a. “the blockchain lawyer”, based in Berlin, Germany. As a technology-focused lawyer, Florian advises blockchain-centric organisations on legal compliance and systems design. As a developer, he focuses on software-driven innovation in law and finance and as a researcher, he explores the interaction of code and law in a digital society.
A further keynote speaker will be Elsa Taquet from Quebec, Canada. She is a legal advisor at TRIAL International, a non-governmental organisation fighting impunity for international crimes and supporting victims in their quest for justice. As an expert in protecting vulnerable populations in armed conflicts, Elsa will share insights into TRIAL’s innovative approach to the law, paving the way to justice for survivors of unspeakable sufferings.

SPEAKERS & MODERATORS
Sarah van Hecke
Deloitte, Netherlands
Sarah van Hecke is a communication scientist with a specialisation in attitude and behaviour. She focuses specifically on the influence of imagery and design on behaviour. In recent years she has implemented the Legal Design discipline within the legal profession. At Deloitte she manages the Designing Insight team which advises on how visualisation can be used to achieve communicative goals.
Elsa Taquet
TRIAL International, Switzerland
As Senior Legal Adviser, Elsa Taquet is working on investigations and litigations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Eastern DRC and the Kasai region. She has extensive experience in the prosecution of international crimes in the most remote places, representing victims of mass atrocities before criminal courts, and bringing war lords to justice. She recently closed the Sheka trial and has worked with former Nobel Peace Prize Dr. Mukwege in bringing justice for the Kavumu victims. She has experienced first-hand how legal innovation and a pioneering approach can roll back impunity for mass crimes, even in conflict zones.
Florian Glatz
Blockchain Bundesverband, Germany
Florian Glatz is a lawyer, software developer and entrepreneur working in the field of blockchain and legal tech. He is co-founder of the Legal Tech Center and president of the Blockchain Bundesverband. As an expert on blockchain technology at the intersection of law, he advises policy makers and companies alike and publishes regularly on these topics.
